Lent 4: Fiery Serpents

Preaching text: Numbers 21:4-9 Hi, my name is Victoria, and I listen to podcasts about disease for fun. Today, I want you to come with me on an epidemiological journey. #ThrowbackThursday to our 2022 Preaching Camp! One month ago the Geese met at Mar-Lu-Ridge Camp and Retreat Center for our annual romp through the liturgical calendar. Not only do we share ideas and work that we'll use in our individual ministries, we also start to workshop ideas for Barn Geese Worship...including our 2022 Advent series, launching this fall!
On this Easter Sunday, a devotion for those ready for good news.
"The tomb," writes the Rev. Justin Kosec in his commentary for Holy Saturday, "is the place where all humanity gathers and all are rendered equally powerless. The grave is both entirely personal and entirely impersonal. It is a site of great stillness but also of intense emotion."
The action of Good Friday, the Rev. Justin Kosec, is a whirl of motion: from midnight gardens and public trials to private conversations and jailhouse beatings. But all this action and motion shudders to a halt on the hilltop cross.
In this commentary on Maundy Thursday, the Rev. Justin Kosec brings to mind the hours we've spent around our own tables, before reminding us that Jesus knelt in dropped-fork, crumb-covered, the-dogs-are-begging-down-here territory in order to show his disciples how he desired them to love one another.
A blessing for your Holy Week. We're rooting for you. And your takeout menu selection.
