“More Than Words” was written to accompany worship throughout the Advent season. It explores the thematic interplay of each of the seven Advent words as gifts from God to support and empower God’s people through the joys and challenges of life. As God’s love is magnified for us, we magnify it like Mary, too. Crunchy clustered chords toward the end of the refrain evoke the angelic presence of the Annunciation, which hovers in the background of Mary’s Magnificat. The hymn may be used at any time during the Advent season but is particularly suited for the weekly lighting of the Advent candles, which establishes the weekly theme in the liturgy.
